HONORABLE MENTION at competition for a new concept of Transportation Hub held by Gdynia City Council (2014)
The part of the site on the other side of Zwycięstwa avenue is the quarter that closes Swietojanska street — one of the most representative roads of Gdynia’s downtown. Although now it’s occupied by cars. it is planned to be transformed into promenade in the future. The area connected to the eastern border of our site is Plymouth square — a little park, placed next to the planned location of new City Hall. Taking these both things into consideration, we decided to close also this part of Swietoianska street for cars in our project. Therefore, planned promenade could continue all the way to the interchange station at Wzgorze Swietego Maksymiliana.
Some modernistic building near Swietojanska street [due to their historical value] are protected by law from demolition . We decided to fill the gaps between them with modern buildings in a similar fashion, with a lot of narrow streets that lead a pedestrian to the other side of these buildings. The back side is protected from the noise caused by cars from Zwyciestwa avenue by glass screens and new designed buildings.
